Without using any actual Facebook Messenger users can chat using third-party applications such as Digsby, Trillian, IM clients, Skype, or MSN Live Messenger, but of course a special application of Facebook has its own advantages. Application that is devoted to chat up this would only support the system conversation on Facebook.
