Allegedly, the action is an attempt to get passwords from hundreds of users of Google's email service. Including the United Statesgovernment officials, activists and journalists from China.
Actors are thought to originate from Jinan, capital of ShandongProvince in eastern China.
Jinan is one of six locations technical supervision bureau of the People's Liberation Army, aka China's national army. Also in Jinanis a technically oriented college that allegedly linked the attack toGoogle in 2010.
Google says, in his official blog, that this attack one of them usingphishing methods. This method is used to trick users to submitsensitive data such as passwords.
Allegedly, an effort was made to monitor the content of an emailthe target of the attack. Its objectives include senior officials in the U.S. government, Chinese political activists, officials in severalcountries in Asia (especially South Korea), military personnel andjournalists.
